Flashback: Day Eleven - Onward to Orkney!

Day 11: Sunday, October 18

• Started the day with another traditional breakfast at the Greenland...eggs, bacon, sausage, beans, tomato, toast and black pudding. First real black pudding I've had and though I liked it, probably couldn't eat a lot of it in one sitting. I much prefer the haggis.
• After breakfast, we packed up and drove to Scrabster to check in at the ferry, got our tickets (at a discount thanks to the friendly clerk), waited for a while then drove onto the ferry.

• Ferry was a 90 minute ride, with deluxe accommodations on board. Shops and lounges and nice soft seats. Being the end of the tourist season, there were not many folks aboard.
• Dove right off the boat and straight on to Skara Brae. There was a buggy for dad, and a nice film and exhibit, but the actual site was instanely windy. Dad's canes proved they were a musical instrument with the wind whipping by, and we made it about a quarter of the way around the village before we turned back due to the cold and wind. Tasha was a trooper though and made the rounds, taking pictures (including a bunny in house 9) while Dad and I walked back.

• Once done at Skara Brae, we drove on to Kirkwall and found accommodations at the lovely and historic-looking Kirkwall Hotel. Dinner reservations, Internet access and updating emails and the blog.

• Dinner was full and lovely. Had a GREAT dark ale at ROOM TEMP (Orkney Dark Island Ale) and incredible seafood salad (prawns, scallops, crab legs, smoked salmon and haddock) with whisky cake.
• We then stayed up talking to Dad about family history etc. and dad filled out some postcards, then Tasha and I watched some Family Guy, which oddly enough included a brief tangential joke about a Scot.
