Flashback: Day Ten - Farewell to Lagganvoulin

Day 10: Saturday, October 17

• In the morning we cleaned up and closed down our stay at the fine cottage, taking some final pictures, and leaving via the long winding driveway and gated entrance one last time. It was only after leaving that we all acknowledged a certain creepiness to the house, especially in kitchen. Haunted? Maybe...all I know is that all three of us avoided looking out the windows as soon as night fell each night.

• Also had our last breakfast at the Old Firestation and said goodbyes to the staff. When we described our travel plans and the fact that we were planning to just stop at B&Bs along the way, the woman at the counter said "yeah, that's pretty much all we are." We all laughed, but looking back, she was kinda right.
• Took one last stop at the Whisky Castle so Tasha and Dad could see proprietor Mike Drury in action, and they agreed that he was one of a kind. Also stopped in an art gallery at the end of town and browsed before getting on the road.
• The rest of the day was largely a long one of travel. We drove through Inverness and up the A9 to Thurso, then on to Castletown and the Greenland Guest House. We made a few stops along the way, but in the interest of time and making it to our booking in Castletown, we mostly kept to the road. One notable stop however was at Dunrobin Castle, which was stunning itself, especially with its large and stately garden and resident castle cat.

• Once at the guest house we were greeted with a beautiful room and accommodations, including Internet access for the first time in a long while. Caught up (as you know) online and then headed into Thurso for dinner, as Castletown's options are extremely limited. We found Le Bistro, which was crowded but absolutely delicious, with a mocha that met Dad's high expectations.
